On the latest episode of the Petty Family Racing podcast, NASCAR Cup Series champion Richard Petty held a Q&A session. During the episode, Petty and Inman answered a fan’s question regarding ‘the King’s’ fastest career ride. The former NASCAR champion has been competing in stock cars since 1958 and drove for Petty Enterprises. He then switched from Olds to Plymouth in the middle of the 1959 season. Petty drove the car until the beginning of the 1969 season and then switched to Ford. He then joined hands again with the OEM and began piloting the Superbird in 1970.Petty recalled the iconic Plymouth racing days, clinched two Cup Series titles driving the iconic #43 Plymouth Superbird on multiple occasions. Richard Petty answered the question and pointed out that he was the fastest at Talladega Superspeedway. He further explained his feelings about racing at high speed [00:05 onward]:“Probably the fastest I've ever been was in a Superbird, and probably been Talladega because the track was a little bit bigger in Charlotte. I've been Daytona, probably somewhere close to 220 miles, and you didn't realize the difference between 190 and 200, 210, 220. You know, you adapt to that speed, and you don't realize how how fast you go. The only reason you ever feel like he's going fastest when you hit something if you realize he's going too fast.”Richard Petty dominated the stock car racing association with his remarkable performance. ‘The King’ still holds the record for most victories in the sport with 200 under his name. Additionally, Petty also logged 712 top tens and 123 pole positions in his career."From my standpoint, it's a toss-up": NASCAR legend Richard Petty opened up about his two favorite racetracksIn April 2025, on the same podcast, Richard Petty was questioned about his favorite home track. Petty was caught off guard and was confused between two tracks. Later, he named both Rockingham and Martinsville Speedway equally.‘The King’ dominated both tracks with his remarkable skills and clinched 15 victories at Martinsville Speedway in his career, followed by 11 victories at Rockingham Speedway. Petty recalled his memories and stated:"From my standpoint it's a toss-up. I was fortunate enough to win 15 races at Martinsville but we won 11 500-mile races at Rockingham and didn't run near as many races. So it's kind of in between…I guess you would have to say those were my two favorite tracks besides Daytona." (9:09 onwards)Continuing further, the former seven-time Cup Series champion’s son, Kyle Petty, revealed that both tracks have a small distance, and the Martinsville Speedway grandfather clock trophy had an edge over Petty.Kyle also pointed out that his father’s Virginia fan base helped him add Martinsville to the family lore. Additionally, Rockingham Speedway will appear on the NASCAR schedule in the Xfinity and Truck seasons in April 2026.
