Former NASCAR driver Ken Schrader recently shared his thoughts on Kyle Larson and Corey Day's wild USAC racing stint. Both Day and Larson had tough luck during the off-season Hangtown 100 race at Placerville Speedway. The soon-to-be 20-year-old driver was the first one to get involved in a wreck. The crash happened early while Day was running near the front. His midget car snapped and lifted off the ground, flipping multiple times, dealing heavy damage.Meanwhile, Kyle Larson's crash happened later during the Hangtown 100. He controlled most of the race, and the wreck occurred while Daison Pursley was closing on him. Larson tried a slide to maintain the gap over Pursley. However, his move went wrong, and his car rolled through the air.Reflecting on that, on the latest episode of the Herm & Schrader podcast, Ken Schrader told Kenny Wallace [00:17]:"Yeah, he took a ride. It was not one you want to be in, yeah. Had to be thinking, Oh, I got Corey and Kyle out there upside down. Kyle just spun around in the air. Now he spun around, you know, pretty impressively... Landed, land it and then tipped over when you're riding in them. Huge difference, huge difference between Corys and Kyle's, they both look really cool. But when you're bouncing, you know, huge difference between the two."Daison Pursley gained the lead after Kyle Larson's crash and won the Hangtown 100 held at Placerville Speedway. Fortunately, despite getting into massive wrecks, both drivers were unharmed and climbed out of their cars on their own."It should be more than one because of moments like that": Kyle Larson got candid about NASCAR's one-race championship formatIn November 2025, Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson was featured in the Rubbin is Racing podcast. During the podcast, Larson expressed his feelings about the one-race championship format. The current format NASCAR follows features four elimination rounds ahead of the one champion decider race. Each playoff round eliminates four drivers until only four remain to compete in the Championship 4 race. However, for the past few seasons, the format has been facing scrutiny, and fans want the format to be changed.Reflecting on that, Kyle Larson talked about his ideal championship format. The 2025 Cup Series champion expressed his desire to add more races to crown the champion and explained:"I don't think there's ever a clear one hundred percent, you know, perfect format that everybody in the world is gonna agree on. But I think what we can all agree on, I think what you know, Sunday maybe proved that we need more than one race, yes, whether that is 36 or 10 or four or whatever the number is, it should be more than one because of moments like that."Kyle Larson clinched his second Cup Series championship title over the season, dominating Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin. The #5 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver got the lead over Hamlin when he went for a four-tire pit stop and lost his chance to secure his maiden championship title.
