NASCAR legend Greg Biffle set to extend help in storm-hit Jamaica

Former NASCAR driver Greg Biffle has once again stepped up in a time of crisis. The Hall of Fame nominee is set to perform air and sea relief missions for the hurricane-hit Jamaica.

The initiative comes a year after his heroic response to Hurricane Helene, when Biffle personally piloted his helicopter to deliver food and medical supplies to stranded families across North Carolina and East Tennessee. He even competed in a race with Cleetus McFarland to raise funds for hurricane recovery efforts.

This time around, Biffle intends to assemble a fleet of helicopters, planes and boats capable of reaching remote Jamaican areas cut off by Hurricane Melissa. He put out a Facebook post rallying for the same.

In an interview with WFMY News2, the 55-year-old had this to say about his rescue effort,

"The biggest problem is we don't know the terrain, we don't know the extent of the damage. Obviously this storm looks like it's two to three times of the storm that hit western NC (Helene)."

"It's giving me goosebumps right now because of all of the people that just poured out last time and were willing to help, and I feel even more helpless now being so far away from the disaster, just now knowing what they need....this is a much bigger operation, figuring out what they need, coordinate with the right people," he added.

Greg Biffle was bestowed with a distinguished role in the spring race at Darlington Speedway, where he was named the honorary pace car driver.

Greg Biffle names the only race that would bring him back

In a September interview with Frontstretch, Greg Biffle shared that if he'd ever return to NASCAR, it'd be for an event like Daytona 500. The Cup Series veteran previously competed for NY Racing team and finished 36th in the 2022 Daytona 500. Across all his starts in the three National Series, Biffle hasn't won in the prestigious crown jewel event.

"The only thing that really interests me mostly would be like Daytona 500, running in that race. Very prestigious event, very, very difficult to get in, only four spots available… but I think the Daytona 500 is definitely top of my list for running. If that opportunity arose, I would seriously consider that," he said.

Greg Biffle's last race was the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, 2022. He retired midway through the race due to a fuel pump issue, and was marked 35th on the final order.

While it was rumoured that Biffle would return to the 2024 Daytona 500, the veteran driver opted out of the race due to unfulfilled obligations by the team. As a result, JJ Yeley ended up driving in Biffle's stead.
