The 2025 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion (previously known as the Xfinity Series), Jesse Love, is no stranger to adapting quickly, but his experience behind the wheel of a Super2 car in Australia this week left a deeper impression than even he expected. Ahead of Sunday’s Dunlop Super2 Series debut, an Australian touring car racing competition, Love turned roughly 70 laps at Mallala Motorsport Park in South Carolina.

After Super2 Series testing, the 20-year-old driver was asked about his experience. Speaking about the difference between the O’Reilly Series stock car and the Australian Supercars, Love said that the O’Reilly Series car feels slower and less responsive, while the Super2 car felt fast and powerful.

Describing the difference in an interview with Auto Action, Love said:

“In Xfinity, everything happens slower. In the Super 2 car, everything was happening very quickly. It felt really positive, really alive. Honestly, it was unlike anything I have ever driven before. Maybe the closest thing would be a shifter kart.”

Speaking about switching to a right-hand-drive cockpit, Love admitted it was not nearly as difficult as many might assume.

“You’d be surprised. It wasn’t that big of a deal. I missed an apex here or there early, but after the first two sessions it felt normal. The funny part was my right hand wearing out from doing all the turning while shifting with my left,” Love added.

“I’ll learn it the right way and take it back to America”: NASCAR champion on learning heel-toe technique properly

Further in the interview, Jesse Love shed light on the heel-toe technique, saying many people in NASCAR believe Shane van Gisbergen’s advanced heel-toe technique is the reason behind his success on road courses. Now that he’s driving in an environment where that technique is taught and used properly, he plans to master it and implement it in the next NASCAR season.

In the aforementioned interview, Love said:

“Everybody in NASCAR thinks there is something to what Shane van Gisbergen is doing with his feet. I have played around with heel-toe before, but not properly. Doing it here means I’ll learn it the right way and take it back to America. I’ll probably switch to right-foot braking on our road races.”

Jesse Love has joined Austin Cindric as NASCAR representatives to race in Australia's Supercars racing series. Cindric will race in the Repco Supercars Championship main event this weekend.
