Mark Martin took a brutal dig at the single-race title-decider format as the Supercars championship saw a fate reminiscent of NASCAR. The Australian racing series crowned its champion with a newly introduced playoff system, but it has received backlash for the year's most dominant driver missing out on the title.

Martin has been a vehement critic of the playoff system. He recently took aim at the format and shared that entertainment has taken priority at the expense of tradition and legitimacy. Connor Zilisch losing the Xfinity Series title after a 10-win season added to his cause.

The Australian Supercars championship further proved his point, as Chaz Mostert won the title, while the standout driver of the year, Roc Feeney, lost out on it. The outcome has created uproar among fans, as pointed out by NASCAR reporter Jeff Gluck:

"Supercars just wrapped their first try at a playoff system and the best driver of the year didn’t win it. The replies to the post below look familiar to NASCAR fans."

Mark Martin responded to the X post with a blunt remark, writing,

"Dumb system 🤯"

Reports suggest that NASCAR's playoff system is bound to have a shakeup. It's widely believed that the sport will do away with the one-race championship and bear an extended playoff instead, featuring a three of four race final round.

Mark Martin opens up about his pushback against NASCAR's playoff format

Mark Martin recently appeared on Kenny Wallace's youtube channel and delved into his stance against NASCAR's scoring system. The veteran driver noted that he shared the same ideas as the fans did, prompting him to lend his voice for the same.

"Well, you know, I just listened to the fans. Basically, it was not about me. It was never about me. If it was my feelings. I would have never voiced them so loudly, interesting, but I the fans needed a voice. I heard them. I was with them. I was out in the field with them. I was at racetracks. I read the social media and the comments, and I just felt like that. I could be their voice," he said.

Mark Martin also admitted that he initially felt 'embarrased' when he rallied against the playoffs, but insisted that he continued for the fans. Nonetheless, Martin has drawn many supporters along the way. Drivers like Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott and veterans like Dale Earnhardt Jr. have backed his rhetoric.

At one point, Martin lauded Elliott's opinion on the full-season points format. The HMS driver had claimed that a dominant driver should be celebrated instead of feared, seeing how such a driver can wrap up a season early. Earnhardt agreed with the assessment as well.
