NASCAR Cup Series regular Kyle Busch, who is currently in his third season with Richard Childress Racing, has been winless since June 2023. In 2024, his 19-year-old streak of at least one race win each season ended. The 2025 season became the second consecutive year in which he did not make it to the playoffs and finished the season 21st on points.
In an interview with NASCAR.com, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion reflected on his lackluster 2025 campaign and said that he wants to start winning races again. But there’s something else he needs to do first to assert his dominance.
“There’s still a building process that’s got to take place to get us to that avenue,” Kyle Busch explained. “And being most consistent each and every week and finishing consistently in the top five is the easiest way to prove that you’re capable of your next win. So we’ve got to get to that point first.”
Kyle Busch is currently the winningest driver in NASCAR. He has 63 victories in the NASCAR Cup Series, 67 in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, and 102 in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, which is more than any driver on the grid.
Busch has a new crew chief for the 2026 season, as Randall Burnett, his usual crew chief, will be moving to Trackhouse Racing. Jim Pohlman will join Richard Childress Racing as the new crew chief of the No. 8 team.
“I think this offseason will be different”- Kyle Busch reveals off-season plans with his new crew chief
This off-season, Kyle Busch thinks that he needs to build his connection with Jim Pohlman, his new crew chief. Although that’s just one aspect of regaining his winning momentum at Richard Childress Racing, the Las Vegas native said he wanted to get more comfortable working with Pohlman.
Pohlman spent his 2025 season calling races for Justin Allgaier at JR Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Currently, he sits ninth on the all-time Cup Series wins list.
“I think this offseason will be different just based off of trying to build some camaraderie and some time with Jim,” Kyle Busch said in a statement. “Being able to spend some time with him and just kind of figure things out and what makes him tick, and obviously ways of things of what makes me tick and getting on the same page to start our season.”
For now, all eyes are on Daytona International Speedway, which will host the 68th running of the Daytona 500 on February 15, 2026. This 500-mile crown jewel event also happens to be the first points-paying race of the season.
