Kyle Busch has recorded his second straight winless season with Richard Childress Racing. In the season finale at Phoenix Raceway, the No.8 driver scored his third top-5 of the season and was excited to start things anew with 2026 crew chief Jim Pohlman.

Busch's last win came from a Gateway race back in 2023. Since then, the Las Vegas native has struggled to compete up front. This year was no different, as he recorded an average finish of 17.9 after 36 starts.

Moreover, the 40-year-old has led fewer than 100 laps this season, while his RCR teammate, Austin Dillon, ranks a lot better as a playoff driver and a race winner at Richmond. As a result, Busch is now one of the five drivers who've faded this year.

However, Busch had an optimistic take on the situation in an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR radio. Reflecting upon his P5 finish at Phoenix, he said,

"You know we took two tires there at the end and that gave us the track position there and the final restart but good adjustments, you know thanks to Andy Street for filling in the last few weeks it was really good to come out of here on a high note and get a good solid finish to end the season so something to build off of for sure and. Excited for Jim Pohlman to start and get ready for the day."

Next year, Kyle Busch teams up with Justin Allgaier's crew chief, Jim Pohlman.

Kyle Busch shares his hope for Jim Pohlman

Kyle Busch has parted ways with his fromer crew chief, Randall Burnett, since the latter has moved to Trackhouse Racing to helm Connor Zilisch's Cup Series ride. While Andy Street stepped up as interim crew chief, JR Motorsports' Jim Pohlman will replace him as Busch's new crew chief.

Notably, Pohlman has previously headed research and development for RCR. Austin Dillon noted that such prior experience was was one of the reasons for his hiring. Kyle Busch, on his part, shared a hopeful outlook on the new partnership.

"Hopefully he's the guy that can help lead us in the right direction with not just the eight car but also RCR as a whole. He gave me a little bit of personality traits from what I've had from others previously. You know, a little mix of a couple that I really enjoyed working with and had some great success with," he said via X/Bob Pockrass.

Pohlman won the 2024 Xfinity Series title with Justin Allgaier. Moreover, he has made it to the final four for three consecutive years. Although Pohlman hasn't worked with a Cup Series ride, his success in the lower-tier series offers promise.
