Harvick began his NASCAR career five years after Gordon had his first Busch Series(now O'Reilly Auto Parts Series) race in 1990. While Harvick secured his maiden Cup Series win in 1994, it wasn't until 2001 that Harvick could match the feat.

Harvick went on to have three winless seasons before clinching the Cup Series title with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2014. Gordon, on the other hand, recorded four wins the same year.

Gordon had his final race on the same track where he scored his final win, Martinsville Speedway. He retired from the sport in 2016, while Harvick had yet another winless season in 2021, before retiring in 2023.

Jeff Gordon currently serves as the Vice President of his longtime team, Hendrick Motorsports. Harvick, meanwhile, commentates on the sport in his weekly podcast, Happy Hour.

Jeff Gordon looks back on his 'best teammate'

Jeff Gordon reflected on his love for Ken Schrader, his first teammate at Hendrick Motorsports. The 54-year-old spoke to RACER magazine and opened up about the support he received from Schrader during his early days.

"One of my first teammates, Ken Schrader, was my best teammate," he said, "He had been in the series for about 10 years by the time I got there, and he was a fun-loving good guy, great driver, and an all-around help for a rookie like me."
"Seeing his talent made me interested in NASCAR and wanting to know more about it. Then when I got there and we ended up as teammates, I could see Ken was supportive of the whole Hendrick organization and open to sharing ideas and information, but also someone who always kept us laughing. We're still great friends to this day; I love that man," Gordon added.

Ken Schrader continues to take part in racing. He competes in dirt races and is the oldest ARCA Menards Series winner. He later won races in the now-disbanded series, SRX.

The 70-year-old scored his 13th win of this year at his own dirt track, I-55 Speedway. Vying for the 14th win of the season, Schrader competed in the annual 2025 Turkey Bowl but ended up a respectable sixth.
