Is Kyle Larson running out of luck just when he needs it most?

Kyle Larson has been one of the most consistent drivers this year in the Cup Series field, which was reflected in his championship 4 berth that was secured due to the points he had amassed in the Round of 8. But, with the championship finale less than a week away, is the Hendrick Motorsports star's luck running out when he needs it the most in his pursuit of his second championship.

Since 2021, Larson will make his third visit to Phoenix as a contender for the Cup Series title. The 33-year-old has had a string of strong race finishes throughout the year, and arriving at Phoenix, it is one of his best tracks in the racing calendar.

He has four top-five finishes in the past five races at Phoenix, including the decisive victory in 2021. But top-five finishes often mean nothing at Phoenix in the context of the championship, as more often than not, the race winner is also the championship winner.

That's where Larson's 2025 conundrum lies. Despite a host of respectable finishes this year and three race wins earlier in the year, the California-born driver has not returned to the victory lane since the spring race at Kansas.

This marks a 23-race winless streak, which is Larson's longest winless hiatus since he joined the HM outfit. So, this could spell disaster for Kyle Larson's hopes and dreams of clinching the title come Sunday, as another near-miss at a race win could help another driver win the elusive title.

Kyle Larson asserts it's going to be tough to win the title in Phoenix due to the fiery championship 4 contenders

Along with Kyle Larson, Chase Briscoe, Denny Hamlin, and William Byron are also in the mix for the Cup Series title. This means that the Bill France Cup would either head to Hendrick Motorsports or Joe Gibbs Racing this year.

But when asked about his thoughts on how the championship showdown could go down, Larson said (via FOX Sports):

"I really don't think [my title matters]. It's been so long and we all have [experience]. Chase doesn't have any Championship 4 experience but I don't even think that matters either. We'll see. I would like to win a championship and not have a new champion next week, but it's going to be tough, for sure. It always is."

"It’s good to have that experience, and that can sort of numb out some of the highs and lows of what the emotion can be. And this is certainly not a time for emotion. This is time to put our nose down and get to work."

The NASCAR Cup Series championship race would begin at 3 PM ET at the Phoenix Raceway on November 2.
