Keselowski and Annett were not teammates, but they spent many years racing against each other in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and the Cup Series. They entered the sport at around the same time. Keselowski drove for Team Penske and later RFK Racing, while Annett drove for JR Motorsports, Germain Racing, and Richard Petty Motorsports.

Team RSMG confirmed Annett’s death at the age of 39 on Friday. They called him a family member and said they were keeping his loved ones in their thoughts. The cause of death was not shared.

Keselowski retweeted a message from NASCAR Man that announced Annett’s death, remembered his early ARCA wins, and added his own message.

“I remember this day vividly. Michael was an up and comer at the same time I was and he was looking really good. In the end, Life took us different paths and all of us who knew him and the talent he had are sad to see him go, but glad he is no longer suffering.”

Michael Annett built a long and steady career across multiple NASCAR series. He won in ARCA at Talladega in 2007 and Daytona in 2008, which matched the early success remembered in the tribute post. He went on to make 10 ARCA starts, nine Craftsman Truck Series starts, 106 Cup Series starts, and 321 Xfinity Series starts. His biggest national series win came at Daytona in 2019 with JR Motorsports.

Brad Keselowski looks at IMSA as a possible next step for RFK Racing

Brad Keselowski is planning to expand beyond NASCAR. He said he is interested in entering IMSA if Ford’s upcoming 2027 Le Mans Hypercar becomes available for racing in the United States.

In an interview at Phoenix Raceway, Keselowski said via Jayski:

“Ford is building a Hypercar for 2027 that is going to compete at Le Mans, and maybe the United States. And if it competes in the United States, I’d like to own that team.”

The move would connect RFK Racing to its older roots. Jack Roush, the team’s co-owner, started his motorsports success by running championship-winning IMSA programs in the 1980s before moving into NASCAR. Returning to IMSA would bring the team back to where it began.

IMSA’s WeatherTech Championship includes major endurance races at tracks like Sebring and Watkins Glen. If RFK Racing joins the GTP class, it would mark a major expansion and another long-term step for Brad Keselowski and the team.
