NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin recently criticized ESPN senior writer Ryan McGee for writing a propaganda piece, accusing him of brainwashing fans. Hamlin disagrees with McGee's perspective on the lawsuit filed by 23XI Racing against the stock car racing association.23XI Racing and FRM found themselves in this situation after refusing to sign the charter agreement last year. Following that, the Cup Series teams filed an antitrust lawsuit against the governing body, accusing CEO Jim France of creating a monopoly in the sport. Also, the lawsuit is set to go on trial in a few days.Ahead of the trial, Ryan McGee pointed out that Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan want the teams to gain more control. McGee emphasized that the teams receive 49% of the TV money, but 23XI Racing claims it's still not enough. Also, Jordan believes NASCAR should adopt an NBA-like system. Instead of leasing the charters, the governing body should sell them to the teams.Reflecting on that, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver called out the senior writer for creating a propaganda-style piece and wrote:"Please give credit to @mforde for helping you write this propaganda piece that they want pushed to switch the narrative. Continuous lies about our stance, NASCARs motives for its actions, and continued message from the sanctioning body that everything is fine. Our fans know better."Denny Hamlin added:"Our fans have been brainwashed with their talking points for decades. Narratives pushed by media who are intimidated by them. Lies are over starting Monday morning. It’s time for the truth. It’s time for change."The antitrust lawsuit filed by 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports against NASCAR will go to trial on December 1, 2025. If the governing body wins the trial, it would be the end of 23XI and FRM. On the other hand, if the Cup Series teams secure a victory, the sanctioning body could be forced to make the charters permanent."Jim doesn’t really value the current owners of our sport": Denny Hamlin's email claims NASCAR CEO doesn't value team ownersIn 2022, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin attended a meeting with NASCAR president Steve Phelps and CEO Jim France. Later, Hamlin revealed that the governing body only focuses on cutting costs and called out France for the same. The #11 Toyota driver claimed that France thinks of NASCAR as a product and does not value team owners. During the meeting, the veteran highlighted the cost of building engines, and France asked him to cut costs rather than provide financial support to the teams.Denny Hamlin further highlighted that the sanctioning body wants the manufacturers to cover the expenses and take no financial responsibility. Reflecting on that, Hamlin wrote:"Jim doesn’t really value the current owners of our sport and what we bring. He believes that NASCAR itself is the show. He made a point to say that we have to continue to give OEMs tremendous value because they help support the teams. I honestly don’t think he understands that every teams OEM deal is different. I told him our 15M number is WITH OEM engine support."The NASCAR Cup Series driver concluded that the stock car racing association pays attention to the team's expenditure. Meanwhile, the organization overlooks what the tracks spend on while bagging most of the purse.
