Denny Hamlin shared a candid take on Kyle Larson's Cup Series championship. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was worried that Larson's efforts weren't 'talked about that much'.

Larson joins elite company after Sunday's championship race. He's now alongside Kyle Busch and Joey Logano as the only active drivers with multiple Cup Series titles.

Last year, Larson was the winningest driver with six wins to his name, but missed out on the title shot to Logano. This time around, although a caution fell his way and strategy worked in his favour, he managed to hold his bearings and hoist the trophy.

Addressing the same, Hamlin spoke to the media and said,

"There's a difference in 'deserving' and 'should've been', right? I think that there's not one person that should ever question his deservingness of being a champion. That's what I don't like to see. I mean, he's a great friend of mine, and if it wasn't me I was definitely happy for him."

"I'm a bit torn as well, because my friend won the championship and it's not being talked about that much," he added.

Denny Hamlin personally met Kyle Larson during the latter's post-championship party. The No.11 shared that he wanted to pay his respects and show up as a good friend. Larson described the interaction as one he'll 'never forget', noting how Hamlin's 'pain' and 'disappointment' was clearly visible.

Kyle Petty calls Denny Hamlin a champion in 'anyone's book'

Kyle Petty has advocated for Denny Hamlin as championship worthy driver. The Cup Series veteran highlighted Hamlin's achievements and noted how he's done a lot for the sport.

"Denny Hamlin is a champion in anyone's book. It doesn't matter that he's hoisting that trophy or not. Three Daytona 500 wins, 60 wins in the Cup Series, not to count all the top-5s and the top-10s. Not to count he's an owner along with being a driver...he's done so much for this sport. I was crushed for Denny Hamlin," Petty said in a segment with NASCAR.

Denny Hamlin finished the year with six wins, 15 top-5s, five poles and more than 1000 laps led. Despite the dominant form, the JGR ace has taken a step back from racing. He admitted that its going to take some time to get over Sunday's crushing defeat.

Hamlin still has two years on his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing, but he was hoping to win his maiden title for his ailing father. Now that his title bid has been foiled, Hamlin looks at yet another year of chasing the long-elusive championship.

However, Hamlin does have other feats to look forward to. With 60 wins under his belt, he has the chance to overcome Kyle Busch in the all-time wins list, and hopefully hit 70 wins in the near future.
