Denny Hamlin posted a calm demeanour after spending four hours getting questioned by the defence. The 23XI Racing co-owner's testimony continued into the second day of trial.

One of the main points of contention was Hamlin's salary at Joe Gibbs Racing. The No. 11 driver apparently earns $14 million per year, and when asked if he deserves the amount, Hamlin shared that he makes up for it by winning races.

He was later questioned about his team's financials. The 45-year-old has put down around 50 per cent of the Airspeed facility and covers 40 per cent of the team's costs. He also pays a loan of $45 million for the same.

When the defence attorney inquired about internal emails referencing his irresponsible spending habits, Hamlin admitted that it was his co-owner's job to keep him in check. Meanwhile, Hamlin took a shot at NASCAR and noted that 11 of the original chartered teams are no longer in the sport, alluding to a failing business model for teams in the sport.

Another point was that the France family asks teams to spend around $10 million per year, when in actuality, it takes around $20 million to keep the team running. The 2025 charter agreement, on the other hand, only pays $12.5 million per year.

Denny Hamlin had an emotional first day of trial when he was brought to tears while reflecting upon his path to Cup racing. Nonetheless, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports have a 44-page witness document to present to the jury. They'll do so in the next two weeks of the trial.

Denny Hamlin questioned about his positive remarks on NASCAR

Denny Hamlin faced scrutiny when asked about his positive remarks on NASCAR during his podcast appearances. NASCAR's attorney Lawrence E. Buterman conducted the cross-examination.

NASCAR reporter Joseph Srigley detailed the showdown between the two, writing,

"NASCAR's counsel then asked Hamlin about his appearance on the Kenny Wallace Podcast, where he mentioned that the NextGen car was a net-positive about the sport -- and didn't say anything negative about the racecar."
"Because if I say anything bad, I get a lashing from NASCAR. So, publicly, it's all sunshine and rainbows. My job is to take the talking points NASCAR says to him and say them publicly. If he says anything bad, he gets a phone call from NASCAR," Denny Hamlin replied.

"In the same vein, Hamlin was asked why he praised the Mexico City event on that same podcast, and simply responded with, "Yes, that was your talking point," Srigley further elaborated.

Earlier this year, Denny Hamlin exposed NASCAR's lies about the Next Gen package. He claimed that the sanctioning body promised a versatile car fit for all types of tracks, but the car was only sent for testing two months before debut.
