Wilkens Mathieu vs. Shakeel Phinn: Live round-by-round updates

Wilkens Mathieu vs. Shakeel Phinn will serve as the co-main event for this Thursday's (Oct. 30) Top Ranks card, headlined by Mary Spencer vs. Mikaela Mayer. The super middleweight fight will have the NABF and WBC Continental Americas titles on the line.

Mathieu (14-0) sports a true fan-friendly style. The 20-year-old has a penchant for knockouts and is on a four-fight knockout streak. The Canadian was most recently seen in a third-round KO over Adagio McDonald in June.

Phinn (27-3-2) is on a seven-fight unbeaten run. The former IBO Americas super middleweight champion was last seen in action in January when he claimed a unanimous decision win over Facundo Nicolas Galovar.

Round 1

Phinn is trying to push the pace, but is being met with body shots from Mathieu. Mathieu's crisp foot movement is making him an elusive target, deterring his opponents from unloading any power shots.

Round 2

Phinn unloads a barrage, but most of his punches fail to find the mark. Mathieu's blistering speed is presenting problems for his opponent. A powerful right hand lands flush for the 20-year-old. Mathieu connects with a barrage as Phinn tries to close the distance.

Round 3

Phinn tries to pressure his opponent into a corner. Mathieu pivots out of danger. While Phinn is unable to string up long combinations, his is still on the front foot trying to Phinn his opponent on the ropes and make it a phone booth fight.

A cracking upper cut lands for Mathieu. A follow-up barrage drops Phinn. The 35-year-old survives the count. Toward the end of the round, Mathieu once again wobbles his opponent with a flurry. Phinn ties up in desperation.

Round 4

Phinn is getting peppered up both to the body and head every time he tries to close the distance with his much faster opponent. Mathieu connects with a big right hand and follows it up with an uppercut.

Phinn connects with a powerful bodyshot. Mathieu fires back with another uppercut. A closer round for Phinn.

Phinn dilas up the pressure, throwing big body shots. Mathieu, sensing the danger, resorts to counter punching, which eventually slows his opponent's momentum.

Mathieu is landing almost at will, with Phinn unable to deal with his opponent's electric speed. A quick 1-2 followed by a right hand wobbles his opponent. A counter left land for Phinn at the end of the round.

Round 6

Phinn tries to mount a comeback the only way he knows how, pressuring his opponent, trying to land powerful body shots in the pocket. Mathieu's accurate jabs are presenting problems for his aggressive opponent.

Round 7

Phinn comes out with reckless abandon, but Mathieu's counters stun his opponent. The 20-year-old swarms his opponent with a relentless barrage, but Phinn, however, is still on his feet.

A 1-2 combination lands flush for Phinn. Mathieu may have punched himself out from his flurry during the opening minute of the round.

Round 8

Mathieu is landing quick jabs. Phinn answers with a powerful right hook. A nuclear right hand lands for the 35-year-old. Mathieu looks hurt and ties up. The older fighter goes on the front foot and tries to force his opponent to fight on the inside.

Phinn, however, finds it hard to land consistently, giving his opponent ample time to recover.

Phinn is leading the dance, forcing Mathieu to fight on the back foot, resorting to jabs and counter punching. The fighters trade powerful right hands. Phinn is not giving any breathing room for his opponent, swarming Mathieu with punches on the inside.

Round 10

Phinn comes out guns blazing. Mathieu, however, doesn't seem to have any plans to back down and goes punch to punch with his opponent.
