Jack Della Maddalena’s coach, Ben Vickers, broke down all that happened in the Australian’s loss to Islam Makhachev at UFC 322.
Maddalena was the defending UFC welterweight champion but was absolutely dominated by Makhachev. The Russian became the new champion while Maddalena struggled to find any offense in the fight.
Maddalena was also seen grimacing several times during the fight. Even before the start of some rounds, there was a look of pain on his face.
Rumors started doing the rounds that Maddalena either came into this fight with an injury or injured himself during the fight. Vickers was asked about this while speaking on Submission Radio.

The coach didn’t confirm the injury rumors and instead took the blame for the loss:
“When you commit to having a fight, it doesn’t matter what the f**** wrong with you, if anything was, I am not going to confirm or deny anything. When we decided to step in that cage, we believed Jack could win that fight. That’s all I am going to say, there are no excuses here, we didn’t do enough on the day to get the job done and that is it.”
Vickers went on to say that the team would be working and learning from the loss. He expected Maddalena to also be upset with the performance, like he was with the coaching.

Jack Della Maddalena’s team ripped by apart Ian Machado Garry
Ian Machado Garry will take on Belal Muhammad on this weekend’s UFC Qatar event, but he has Jack Della Maddalena on his mind too.
Garry was speaking to UFC on TNT Sports and criticized the Australian’s team for their role in the loss:
"Islam looked phenomenal everywhere. Jack and his team just didn't look prepared. I don't know if anyone told them they had a world title defence. They should be ashamed for the preparation, in my opinion."
Garry also praised Makhachev’s performance in the win:
"I thought it was clean. He did what he needed to do against someone who I thought was gonna cause him problems... Islam looked phenomenal everywhere. I thought he was clean and crisp... I think he was just having fun."
