The UFC 323 co-main event ended in disastrous fashion for Alexandre Pantoja. The Brazilian came into this clash on an eight-fight winning streak, but things didn’t go his way.Joshua Van, the challenger, was hit by a head kick by Pantoja. However, as the Brazilian landed on his left hand, the arm seemed to buckle and he was seen holding it.Van did not follow up on the champion and the referee called off the fight. The footage of the injury was shown after the fight, and it seemed that the Brazilian had broken his arm.Check out the Alexandre Pantoja injury below [Graphic warning]:MMA journalist, Ariel Helwani, initially tweeted that this was an arm break for Pantoja.Ariel Helwani @arielhelwaniLINKHoly smokes. Pantoja’s arm breaks as he lands in the first few seconds and the fight is off. Josh Van is the new champ. Absolutely sickening. Don’t watch the footage. It’s awful. However, he then posted another take from sports doctor Brian Sutterer, who claimed that this could be a potential dislocation, which might still require surgery.Check out Ariel Helwani's X post below:Ariel Helwani @arielhelwaniLINKI asked @BrianSuttererMD how long surgery would keep Pantoja out: “Really hard to predict return but would expect a few months either way, even if surgery not needed.”There is no confirmation of what the injury is at the time of writing. Pantoja was despondent after the injury and he was consoled by Van and Dana White as he left the octagon. It is to be seen when the Brazilian might return, but he could be out for a long time if this is reported as a fracture. As for Van, his rise up the UFC ladder has been incredible. The Myanmar-born star won his last five fights before getting a shot at the title. He is only 24, and becomes the second youngest UFC champion after Jon Jones. Van, while speaking to Joe Rogan, agreed that this wasn’t the way to win a title. However, he was thankful for the opportunity and also was grateful to his mother, who was in the octagon holding his new UFC title.
