Japanese kickboxing star Hiromi Wajima is grateful and excited to have finally landed in ONE Championship. He sees it as a great new chapter in his professional career.

The former K-1 super welterweight world champion will make his ONE debut at ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri on Nov. 16 at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan. He is going against bantamweight Muay Thai world champion Nabil Anane in a featherweight kickboxing clash.

Wajima comes in as a short-notice replacement after Anane's original opponent, Jonathan Haggerty, had to pull out after injuring his shoulder in training. Anane was supposed to defend the bantamweight Muay Thai world title against 'The General', who is the former divisional king and current bantamweight kickboxing champion.

'The Purple Comet' said:

"My impression of ONE Championship is that there are so many notable fighters on contract. I think this is a great stage for fighters. There are lots of people who used to fight for K-1, so I feel a little bit nostalgic and [it's] great to see them in ONE Championship."

He added:

"For Nabil, he’s very tall, of course. I think he’s the tallest opponent of my career, but it’s just short notice, but I studied well enough to be victorious against him. I’m looking forward to fighting him."

Hiromi Wajima has won his last two matches heading into his ONE Championship debut.

Anane, for his part, is on a seven-fight winning streak and was elevated to undisputed bantamweight Muay Thai world champion from interim earlier this year after erstwhile titleholder Superlek Kiatmoo9 was stripped of the championship belt for missing weight in his title defense against Anane in March.
