“They'll be way better than me” - Aung La N Sang promises the next generation will surpass current one in MMA

Former two-division ONE World Champion Aung La N Sang of Myanmar will no longer don the four-ounce gloves professionally, but promised that his fans will still see more of him in a different capacity.

‘The Burmese Python’ officially became the third inductee to ONE Championship’s prestigious Hall of Fame during an emotional ceremony at ONE 173 in Tokyo on November 16.

While the 40-year-old has bid goodbye to his illustrious career, Aung La will now shift his full focus to building the next wave of champions.

The former middleweight and light heavyweight MMA world champion has established Python MMA in Greenacres, Florida, with Aung La himself carefully monitoring the growth of its trainees, especially the youth.

After getting enshrined into the Hall of Fame, Aung La caught up with combat sports journalist Nick Atkin and shared excitement for his next chapter:

“For sure. I'll be in the corners, and I'll be bringing the next generation, and they'll be way better than me. That's for sure.”

Aung La N Sang inspired an entire nation when he became Myanmar's first world champion in any sport.

The country has slowly become an emerging powerhouse in combat sports, and Aung La promises that more talents will emerge under his wing.

Aung La N Sang basked in the glory of his Hall of Fame induction at ONE 173.

Apart from achieving one final career milestone, the 40-year-old was overjoyed as a fan to witness such a historical event.

The former two-division MMA world champion even joked about foregoing retirement after witnessing the action. He told Nick Atkin:

"Yeah. So it's kind of, I don't know. It just, I was like, I almost felt like I wanted to fight. Yeah. But I wasn't going to fight."
