Former UFC welterweight king Belal Muhammad recently shared his honest thoughts on Islam Makhachev potentially facing Kamaru Usman next. Muhammad claimed that Makhachev and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz, were seeking to book a fight against an easy opponent.

Makhachev beat Jack Della Maddalena via unanimous decision at UFC 322 in November and became the new welterweight champion. In the aftermath, Usman expressed his keen interest in being Makhachev's first title defense and called out the Dagestani grappling savant.

Makhachev notably clarified that he was open to facing Usman next and claimed 'The Nigerian Nightmare' would be his hardest fight at 170 pounds. However, many believe other contenders like Michael Morales, Ian Machado Garry, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and Carlos Prates should be considered before Usman.

In a recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, Muhammad named Morales as the most deserving title challenger right now and said:

"Who do I think deserves it [title shot]? Who do I think has earned it? I think Michael Morales for sure has earned it. But we see the seeds planted. We see Islam planting the seeds of Usman being the next guy. Obviously, they have the same manager... Do I think Usman is an easier matchup for him? Of course. The guy fought one time in three years, and he's 1-3. I'm still ahead of you [Usman]. Even though I lost my last two fights, I'm still 2-2."

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz on Islam Makhachev facing Kamaru Usman next

MMA manager Ali Abdelaziz, who has both Islam Makhachev and Kamaru Usman on his client list, believes the two should be booked for a fight next. After the UFC 322 event, Abdelaziz backed Usman getting the first shot at Makhachev and explained why he believes 'The Nigerian Nightmare' deserved it.

In a backstage interview (via @full_send_mma on X), Abdelaziz recalled Usman's resume and said:

"He said it. He said he wanted to fight Kamaru Usman. Kamaru Usman [had a] 15-fight winning streak, five title defences, [the] greatest welterweight of all time, beat all these young guys, what does that do for his legacy? It does nothing. Kamaru Usman is a very tough opponent, and I represent him too, and he’s not an easy night for anybody. He’s the real deal, and [Islam] wants to fight the real deal."
