UFC heavyweight contender Curtis Blaydes recently shared his thoughts on Alex Pereira potentially moving up to his weight class. Blaydes made it clear that he wasn't a fan of the idea and would prefer the Brazilian staying put at light heavyweight.

Pereira is undoubtedly among the biggest names in combat sports today and is known for his devastating striking power. After conquering the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions, the Brazilian has been vocal about his desire to move up to heavyweight and become the UFC's first three-division champion.

While many are excited about the idea of seeing Pereira compete at heavyweight, Blaydes isn't as optimistic about it and believes it could mess up the division. In a recent interview with James Lynch, the heavyweight contender said:

"That kinda sucks. That would screw up the division. I would rather that didn't happen, if I'm being honest... I think you only get to move up if you sweep through the division, like when Izzy [Israel Adesanya] did it... He had already smoked everybody in the [middleweight] division... I think there's pressure to get Pereira at heavyweight because he's getting older. He's had wars."

Blaydes added:

"How long has he been active in combat sports? 20 years? That's a lot of sparring rounds, a lot of wear and tear. They probably want to get the value out of him before his body starts breaking down."

Former UFC champion gets honest about Alex Pereira potentially moving up to heavyweight

Earlier this year, former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker shared his thoughts on Alex Pereira potentially competing at heavyweight.

The Australian fighter expressed his optimism about Pereira succeeding at a higher weight class and claimed that the heavyweights who could've beaten the Brazilian were active "a generation ago."

In an episode of the MMArcade Podcast (via @RedCorner_MMA on X), Whittaker claimed there was nobody on the current heavyweight roster who could threaten Pereira:

''The guys who had the best chance of beating Alex Pereira aren’t in the division anymore. It was a generation ago; unfortunately, it was an era ago. There’s no one in that division posing a threat to Alex. Moving up to heavyweight is the right thing to do, superstardom-wise and money-wise.''
