Not only did Merab Dvalishvili lose to Petr Yan at UFC 323, but he also failed to outperform his opponent at grappling despite being one of the most feared wrestlers in the world's premier MMA promotion.

Dvalishvili is well known for overwhelming his opponents with relentless grappling pressure and completing a high number of takedowns during most fights. In fact, 'The Machine' holds the record for the most takedowns in UFC history with 119.

Surprisingly, however, he could only get Yan to the ground twice in their rematch. Meanwhile, the Russian secured five takedowns, even picking up and slamming Dvalishvili to the ground at one point.

Reacting to him outwrestling the wrestling extraordinaire on the About Last Fight podcast, Yan burst into a tune while saying:

Nevertheless, Dvalishvili boasted 5:12 minutes of total control time, while Yan managed to rack up 2:55 minutes. The real difference in the fight came on the feet. 'No Mercy' outlanded his opponent in terms of significant strikes in all but one round.

Furthermore, Yan hurt Dvalishvili multiple times with heavy body kicks. When the scorecards were read, the judges had the fight 49-46, 49-46, and 48-47 in the Russian's favor.

While 'The Machine' is intent on securing an immediate rematch for the bantamweight belt, Yan believes he should rematch Umar Nurmagomedov to earn his way back to a title fight.

Petr Yan uses Jacuzzi jibe to troll Merab Dvalishvili over takedown stats

It appears Petr Yan will never let Merab Dvalishvili live down failing to outwrestle him at UFC 323. Neither does he seem to have forgotten 'The Machine's' Jacuzzi jibes in the lead-up to the fight.

During an interview with Full Send MMA following his title win, when the host asked him about his thoughts on effectively neutralizing his opponent's wrestling, Yan responded:

"What can I say? He's probably in the Jacuzzi right now, with the boys hashing it out." [2:50 mark of the interview]
