The reigning ONE welterweight submission grappling world champion made it 2-of-2 in his foray in mixed martial arts, defeating Japanese Shozo Isojima by submission (rear-naked choke) in the opening round of their lightweight clash at ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri on Nov. 16 at Tokyo's Ariake Arena.

While Tye Ruotolo was doing his thing in the Circle, Kade was caught on video by the promotion, egging on and dishing out instructions to his twin brother when he was generating momentum for an early finish.

At ONE 173, Tye Ruotolo showcased his further developing striking game, confidently taking on erstwhile undefeated Isojima on stand-up before taking the fight to the ground. From there, there was simply no stopping the jiu-jitsu black belt, who dominated by working his way to a ground-and-pound, taking his opponent and executing the rear-naked choke to book the victory.

The win also earned Ruotolo another $50,000 performnace bonus from ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Tye Ruotolo reiterates commitment to submission grappling despite MMA success

While he chalked up another MMA win, Tye Ruotolo remains committed to his submission grappling campaign in ONE Championship.

In the post-fight interview session following his win at ONE 173, the 22-year-old grappling ace shared that he is looking forward to defending his world title in his succeeding matches while still on the lookout for good fights in MMA.

Ruotolo has been one of the notable faces of submission grappling in ONE since joining the promotion in May 2022. He has been undefeated in eight submission grappling matches to date, became the welterweight champion in November 2023, and has had two successful title defenses to date.
