Din Thomas was not a fan of the UFC 321 co-main event between Mackenzie Dern and Virna Jandiroba. The analyst was very vocal about his opinion in the lead-up to the pay-per-view. Now the newly crowned 115-pound queen has vehemently clapped back at Thomas.

During an appearance on On Paper with Anthony Smith in the lead-up to UFC 321, Thomas labeled the strawweight title clash "insignificant."

The view has been echoed by many in the MMA community, with most feeling that Dern and Jandiroba would pose little threat to Zhang Weili, who vacated the strawweight championship to chase Valentina Shevchenko's flyweight crown.

Dern, however, doesn't subscribe to this sentiment. Addressing Thomas' criticism during a recent interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, she said:

"Yeah, for sure. [Thomas' comments bothered me]. I don't know, it's like Jon Jones gave up his belt and Tom Aspinall became the champion. What do we in the [strawweight] division have to do with, you know. Like, people can't retire? People can't want to leave the [division] and go up a weight class? If there was a vacated belt, who else would fight for the belt?"

Dern added:

"So, I don't understand what would be so insignificant about finding a champion. [Weili] could've just retired... and then what are they going to do? They're gonna keep the division open? They've got to have a champion, so I don't understand. How is any championship fight insignificant? So, it's just like crazy for me to hear."

Mackenzie Dern talks first title defense

Mackenzie Dern is already looking forward to her first title defense as the strawweight champion, and the 32-year-old is open to any credible challenge the UFC throws her way.

Speaking to Ariel Helwani, the Brazilian proclaimed that she would even be game to face Zhang Weili if she loses to Valentina Shevchenko and decides to move back down to strawweight.

Dern also believes any ranked fighter with at least a two-fight win streak could steal the title shot:

"I think probably someone with like a win streak. I think that even if [Weili] were to lose to Valentina, but her win streak being the former champion, that makes sense. And then Tatiana [Suarez] is coming off a win. So, think like maybe if she had another fight like, two wins [or] on the top in the top, whatever, five or six or seven. I think [Iasmin] Lucindo is fighting Julian Robertson, and I don't know... how big their win streaks are, but yeah... even like just two fights is already good enough to like kind of come and fight for the belt." [17:57 minutes into the interview]"
