Despite not having fought Marcelo Garcia before, BJJ icon Lachlan Giles of Australia revealed a deep history with the Brazilian legend.
The 39-year-old submission specialist will take on ‘Marcelinho’ in a lightweight submission grappling superfight at ONE Fight Night 38 on Prime Video, taking place on Dec. 5 at Bangkok’s Lumpinee Stadium.
Giles idolized the great Garcia, noting his technical innovations that evolved into today’s modern grappling.
However, ‘The Giant Killer’ revealed that Garcia has defeated some of his fellow Australians in the past.

At ONE Fight Night 38, Giles hopes to redeem his comrades by beating the BJJ GOAT. He said on The FloGrappling Show:
"He had his ADCC moments before I was really competing and able to see him live. He almost always would go against an Australian because he was ranked number one, and whoever won the Australia-Oceania trials would usually get pitted against the top seed because we were the lowest-ranking trials."
The Australian continued:
“Two of my coaches, Dave Hart and George Saldopoulos, both went over there and faced him. Exactly. We've been waiting for 20 years for this."

Lachlan Giles says he crafted a new submission move for Marcelo Garcia
Lachlan Giles is bringing some fresh techniques in his debut in the world's largest martial arts organization.
The 39-year-old heel-hook master finetuned some new submissions that he'd love to test out against Marcelo Garcia.
He said in the same interview:
"I've got a new foot lock I do that no one else does, but I think it's pretty good. I've put a few clips up online. It's very similar to a Mikey lock, but slightly different. I'll just name it after myself instead. The Lach Leg."
