Lachlan Giles is back for one fight against Marcelo Garcia at ONE Fight Night 38: "I wouldn't take any other match except this one"

Australian ground game wizard Lachlan Giles walked away from competitive grappling three years ago, but a matchup against Brazilian jiu-jitsu royalty Marcelo Garcia has brought him back.

The 39-year-old has spent his days away from the competition mats, coaching at his gym, and staying away from the physical toll that elite-level training camps demand.

However, when ONE Championship's Vice President of Grappling Tom DeBlass approached Giles about facing the consensus greatest Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner of all time, 'Giant Killer' found himself saying yes to the only matchup compelling enough to end his hiatus.

"One reason I retired was it's hard to do a training camp without getting injured, especially preparing for ADCC against young folks. I wouldn't take any other match except this one—it's such a cool match that I decided I'd come back for it," Lachlan Giles shared during his appearance on The FloGrappling Show.

Lachlan Giles happy to be shifting his gears in fight camp for Marcelo Garcia test

In the same appearance on The FloGrappling Show, the Victoria, Australia native revealed that being back in fight camp has been quite the experience so far.

"The intensity is just the enjoyable amount - showing up and doing as many rolls as makes me happy, not pushing too hard," the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt shared.

"Now, with the focus on a match, I've gone back to what am I best at and how do I get sharper in that area, and building my fitness up as well," he added.
