Former UFC champion Eddie Alvarez recently explained how Petr Yan could neutralize Merab Dvalishvili's high-pressure, grappling-heavy fighting style.Yan and Dvalishvili are set to throw down in a bantamweight rematch at UFC 323 this weekend at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In their previous fight at UFC Fight Night 221 in March 2023, Yan got dominated by Dvalishvili over five rounds and ultimately lost via unanimous decision.Given Dvalishvili's dominance over the bantamweight division, his seemingly unlimited gas tank, and high-pressure style, many expect the Georgian-born fighter to beat Yan again. However, Alvarez believes there's a way Yan could neutralize Dvalishvili's strengths in the cage.In an interview with Mike Bohn, Alvarez urged Yan to invest in body shots early on in the fight:"No.1, it would be great to smash the calf to stop the momentum. Body shots super early, on anyone who has pace like Merab... You have to go to the body, really early in the fight. You won't feel the effect of it until you feel the offensive attacks wane when the third, fourth, and fifth rounds come around. You realize, 'Wow, he's not attacking nearly as much as he usually does.' That's the investment in the body shots coming to fruition."He continued:"[He] gotta, what we would call 'flatten his tires' by investing in the body super early... Maybe knees to the solar plexus, to the liver, and always just relentlessly invest in body shots... If he does that, and he can score enough of them, we can slow the pace of Merab enough to where we can turn it into a fight."Petr Yan gets honest about Merab Dvalishvili's seemingly endless cardioPetr Yan isn't worried about Merab Dvalishvili's gas tank. The Russian fighter recently shared his thoughts on the UFC bantamweight king's cardio capacity and took a jibe at the 'The Machine' moniker. At the UFC 323 pre-fight presser (via @ChampRDS on X), Yan fielded a question about Dvalishvili's cardio and said:"I shouldn't be impressed by that. If it works for him, great. Good for him. Just remember, any car is bound to break at some point. Any machine."
