As Islam Makhachev heads into his UFC 322 clash against Jack Della Maddalena, many believe that despite the size disparity, the Dagestani's wrestling will help him seal the win. However, Makhachev's recent comments have raised some doubts for a former UFC champion. In the lead-up to the pay-per-view, former two-division champion Henry Cejudo seemed sure the Della Maddalena would struggle against the sambo maestro, who he believed boasted a superior overall game. However, during a recent interview with his former AKA teammate Josh Thomson, Makhachev stated that if his grappling failed against the welterweight champion, he'd happily strike with him. While Makhachev's bold proclamation could be a reflection of his confidence in his skills, Cejudo sees this approach as being potentially costly for the Dagestani on fight night.During a recent segment of the Pound 4 Pound podcast, he told co-host Kamaru Usman that while he still favors Makhachev, he no longer expects the dominant showing he originally predicted:"I was going Islam Makhachev, because he is my brother, but I don't think it's as simple as I thought it was, and I'll definitely backtrack on that. There is something that does scare me about this fight Kamaru. There is something that Islam Makhachev said that made me think. 'If wrestling doesn't work,' this is what he said, this is not a good thing. 'If wrestling doesn't work, we're going to strike.'"He added:"Do you really want to strike with a guy that goes to the body with those kicks, throws knees up the middle, like how he caught Gilbert Burns... I want to go Islam Makhachev because of his wrestling, but there is a little bit of a doubt about what I said a little bit before... The only way, in my opinion, of Islam Makhachev winning this fight is going to have to be through the grappling."Check out Henry Cejudo's comments on Islam Makhachev below:Islam Makhachev vs. Jack Della Maddalena: UFC 322 betting oddsWhile Islam Makhachev's recent comments have Henry Cejudo doubting his original prediction for UFC 322, the oddsmakers still seem to favor the 34-year-old for the fight.According to Syracuse.com, Makhachev is a -275 favorite for the match-up with Jack Della Maddalena as a +220 underdog.
