The long-running civil assault case involving Conor McGregor reportedly moved toward closure after the Supreme Court refused his latest appeal. The ruling confirms the High Court jury’s finding involving the incident at the Beacon Hotel in December 2018 and upholds the award of nearly $290,000 (€250,000) in damages.

The matter resurfaced after the Court of Appeal maintained the original verdict last July. That decision also affirmed that Ms. Hand was entitled to her legal costs and dismissed a related request from McGregor’s friend James Lawrence. Despite that outcome, McGregor pursued one final route and instructed a new legal team to bring his case before the Supreme Court.

His application focused on how his no comment responses to gardaí (the state police force of the Republic of Ireland) were treated at trial. The Court of Appeal had previously acknowledged that the trial judge should not have allowed cross-examination on those answers.

However, it also concluded that the error did not compromise the fairness of the hearing, particularly because the jury had been instructed to disregard the responses when considering the allegation. Before the Supreme Court issued its decision, Hand released a statement responding to the end of the appeal process, stating:

“Today marks not a victory for me but for all of those who have been treated as I have. You are never alone on your journey if you choose not to be. Help and support is there.”

The Supreme Court determined that the appeal raised no issue of wider public importance and confirmed that McGregor had already received a fair hearing through the existing appellate process. The former UFC two-division champion, meanwhile, appears focused on preparing for his planned return to action next year.

Khabib Nurmagomedov's manager fires back at Conor McGregor after digital papakha dispute

Abdelaziz dismissed the Irishman’s claims and used the moment to question his relevance in the sport. Speaking in an interview with MMA Junkie, he said:

“Conor is a piece of s***. He is just a piece of s***. Honestly, if I was Conor, I would understand. Khabib took his fans, took his money, took his soul, took everything away from him. Khabib is so loved and admired by everyone, and Conor McGregor is stinged like, he wants to be loved, and he is not anymore.”
