Khamzat Chimaev and Ian Machado Garry had a scuffle after the UFC Qatar event last month. Fans were recently sent into a frenzy after some new footage of their heated backstage fracas emerged.UFC Qatar was headlined by an exciting Arman Tsarukyan vs. Dan Hooker lightweight fight. Chimaev notably cornered his friend and training partner Tsarukyan. After Tsarukyan's second-round submission victory, Garry congratulated the lightweight contender and ran into Chimaev, where they seemingly had a cordial exchange before 'Borz' shoved the Irishman. While Garry claimed that Chimaev's aggression was uncalled for, it appears that may not have been the case. New footage of their brief altercation showed that after Garry embraced Chimaev, he tapped the UFC middleweight champion's back a bit too hard and a few too many times. It seems Garry's slightly aggressive way of greeting rubbed Chimaev the wrong way. After @HappyPunch reposted the footage via an X post, fans flocked to the comments section to express their thoughts on the matter. One fan wrote:"I SAID IT SINCE THE FIRST SECONDS. Ian Garry should have been KO'ed, not just pushed."Another fan wrote:"Nah, Garry 100% deserved to get pushed like that, lol. He knew exactly what he was doing when those back slaps, and Khamzat knew it too, which is why he responded with hard slaps of his own."Check out some more fan reactions below:Screenshots from @HappyPunch on XWhile Chimaev is coming off a dominant unanimous decision title win against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 319 in August, Garry outpointed Belal Muhammad over three rounds at UFC Qatar last month. It's highly unlikely that fans will get to see them settle their differences in the octagon. That said, Garry has previously expressed confidence in his chances against the Chechen-born fighter in a potential fight.
