“I want my story to inspire them” - Fabricio Andrade proud to serve as role model for kids back home in Brazil

ONE bantamweight MMA world champion ‘Wonder Boy’ Fabricio Andrade returned home to Fortaleza, Brazil recently, and found that life has changed since he won the ONE world title.

His name is now known in households in his hometown. People have posters of him on their walls. Most importantly, he’s become an inspiration to many, especially to people who have grown up on the same rough and tumble streets where he used to play as a kid.

Andrade knows the struggle of growing up in Fortaleza, which makes him relatable to people back where he’s from.

‘Wonder Boy’ talked about how important this is to him, and how much pride he has in being a beacon of light for his people. The 28-year-old superstar told ONE Championship in an interview:

“I want my story to inspire them. I know a lot of people, I still have contact with a lot of people from where I grew, and I know how difficult it is when nobody believes in you, when you don’t have support, even from people around you. It’s very difficult.”

Andrade added:

“So with my history, with what I have done, with what I went through, with all the difficult things that I have overcome, I think now I can use that to inspire other people to chase their dreams.”

‘Wonder Boy’ Fabricio Andrade will get the opportunity to inspire his people even further when he steps back into the ONE Championship ring this weekend.

The 28-year-old will defend his ONE bantamweight MMA world title against No.4-ranked contender and Physical: Asia finalist ‘The Tormentor’ Enkh-Orgil Baatarkhuu of Mongolia.

The pair of bantamweight elites will square off in the main event of ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu on Prime Video, which will go down live in U.S. primetime on Friday, Dec. 5, and will take place at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
