Lerone Murphy recently spoke candidly about how hard the sting of the title snub hit him. The undefeated featherweight believed he had done the work and earned his shot, only to watch Diego Lopes jump ahead for a rematch with Alexander Volkanovski. The decision hit harder because Murphy had always viewed MMA as a sport where results mattered more than popularity. He admitted that when he first learned of the booking, the disappointment drained his enthusiasm.Speaking in a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said:"When I first found out… I fell out of love with it for a bit, I’m not gonna lie. I got into MMA over boxing because I thought there were no politics. I thought it was simple. Do the work, the best fight the best, and that’s the way it goes. That’s what hurt me the most. I have to get over it. It is what it is, it’s business. Just keep fighting, keep doing what you’re doing, keep winning, and we’ll get there eventually. I think it’s inevitable that it’s gonna happen, and you know I’m going to be champion.”Check out Lerone Murphy's comments below:Since joining the UFC in September 2019, Murphy has registered nine straight wins after settling for a draw on his debut against Zubaira Tukhugov. He holds the record for the fourth-longest win streak in UFC featherweight division history and is coming off a knockout win against Aaron Pico.Lerone Murphy warns the featherweight division after title snubLerone Murphy admitted he expected to fight Alexander Volkanovski and is now waiting for clarity on his next move. He feels the entire division is calling him out and believes many contenders see him as an easy route toward a title opportunity. However, he wants to put that perception to rest. He is open to any opponent the UFC offers, including a five-round meeting with Movsar Evloev. Speaking in the aforementioned conversation with Ariel Helwani, he said:"I don't know. I'm waiting for some news. I thought it was going to be Volkanovski. It's not Volkanovski, so let's see who they come with. I feel like the whole division is shouting my name, and for me, it's a kick up the a*s because I feel like these guys must think I'm an easy ticket to the title, but they're going to get a rude awakening. I'm telling you, I've got fire lit under me and I'm ready to kill."
