Ian Machado Garry's backstage run-in with Khamzat Chimaev during UFC Qatar became one of the week’s biggest talking points. The meeting started with routine respect as Garry approached Arman Tsarukyan’s corner to congratulate him for the second-round submission win against Dan Hooker.
Chimaev, who cornered Tsarukyan for the fight, stayed calm during the interaction until security stepped between them. That shift confused Garry, who believed the moment was friendly before Chimaev suddenly shoved him and sparked a brief scramble among officials.
Following the event, Chimaev fired a short insult online before deleting it. He claimed that Garry wouldn't survive a minute in his world. Garry dismissed the post as needless noise.
Speaking in a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, he said:

"Dude, that’s so childish. I just came over and celebrated Arman and his team, of which you are a part. Congratulations on the victory. And now you’re turning into a little child, pushing me and verbally assaulting me. This is ridiculous. You’re meant to be a champion of this sport. Don’t dampen your friend’s energy and bring this negative energy. Be happy. Be proud of what your friend just did and don’t come at me with that energy.”
He added:
"I’m pretty sure we’re both white, so I don’t know what the point of the white boy is. I definitely survive a minute [against Chimaev]. I have no plans going up to middleweight anytime soon, but if he wants to, then dude, I’m getting [him]."

Darren Till slams Ian Machado Garry after the clash with Khamzat Chimaev
Darren Till made it clear he wants no part in defending Ian Machado Garry after the tense backstage moment with Khamzat Chimaev in Qatar.
Till sided with Chimaev and questioned Garry’s character while accusing him of creating an inauthentic scene. He pointed to Garry’s repeated gym changes as a sign of deeper issues and said the Irish contender is difficult to trust.
He took to X to react to the situation and wrote:
"Ian Garry is such a good fighter man… But by god is he possibly the fakest human on earth, fake beyond all beliefs. It’s so hard to like him. I’ve literally sat in my bedroom with my own little demons in my head telling me to force myself to like him. He’s calling Khamzat a child. He was being fake. That whole interaction was fake. And when Ian turned, you could see he was scared. Khamzat is like me. That’s why we were best mates."
