Alexandre Pantoja's flyweight title reign came to an anticlimactic end as he suffered a gruesome injury in the first round of his UFC 323 fight against Joshua Van. The official diagnosis about 'The Cannibal's' injury, however, has the fans bewildered. The champion started the fight strong, chasing his younger foe with ruthless intent. The end, however, came quickly as Pantoja slipped and fell after connecting with a high kick.As the Brazilian tried to break the fall with his left arm, his elbow seemingly snapped, forcing the referee to stop the fight 26 seconds into the very first round.Interestingly, according to the official injury update provided by Megan Olivi during the post-show, the UFC's medical team has diagnosed that the fighter suffered a left shoulder dislocation with spontaneous reduction.Check out Alexandre Pantoja's injury update below:This means the fighter's left shoulder popped out of the socket, but then slipped back into place on its own without a doctor needing to manually reset it.The diagnosis has left many puzzled, with commentator Joe Rogan even double-checking with Olivi on air whether it wasn't an elbow dislocation. Sure enough, fans also seem convinced it was an elbow injury rather than an issue with the shoulder.@SeanMcIdiot wrote:"??????? His elbow exploded."@ZzccMMA chimed in:"No wonder he almost became the goat dude has a shoulder in his elbow."@KyleMosca1 questioned:"Are these the same doctors that said Tom’s eye was fine?"@GoinHAM9HD commented:"So you’re saying he could’ve survived the round and popped it back in on the stool."Check out a few more responses below:Screenshots courtesy: @mma_orbit on XNevertheless, Olivi has since confirmed that it was indeed an issue with the fighter's shoulder. In a post on X, Olivi wrote:"We triple confirmed, yes, we are still being told it’s his shoulder for those asking."With a win at UFC 323, Van has become the first Asian-born male to win a UFC world title.
