The White House event is part of the America250 celebrations and is expected to be one of the biggest UFC cards of all time.

It falls on 14 June 2026, which also coincides with US president Donald Trump’s birthday. A lot of planning has to take place to set up the event with the president claiming that they would fight in front of the White House and giant screens would be placed for people to watch at the back.

Makhachev, while speaking to Red Corner MMA, brought up the lack of information as one reason for Khabib not wanting him to fight. ‘The Eagle’ is uncertain of how the event might be planned and hence the apprehension to participate:

“Sometimes Khabib says he doesn’t want to fight me in Abu Dhabi because of too many factors of distraction, I mean Abu Dhabi, and probably the White House event will be no different. The first-ever tournament there, we don’t know what it’s going to be like. We are on the level where everything should be planned in good time.”

Makhachev also brought up his first fight with Alexander Volkanovski. That was held in Australia, and the Russian claimed dealing with the preparations ahead of the fight almost cost him:

“Say my fight in Australia, there were a lot of things we had to take care of during the event. A lot of issues we had to deal with for the first time. That’s why the fight turned out to be so hard. Maybe that’s the reason Khabib said it. We don’t know what it’s going to look like, and he doesn’t want us to be there.”

Islam Makhachev on why he wants to fight Kamaru Usman next

While the welterweight division has rising stars Michael Morales, Shavkat Rakhmonov, Ian Machado Garry and Carlos Prates, Islam Makhachev has his eyes on Kamaru Usman.

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is regarded as one of the greatest UFC welterweights ever. However, he has lost three of his last four fights.

Nevertheless, Makhachev, in the same interview, explained why he wanted to fight Usman next:

"I said I wanted to fight Kamaru Usman next. Although the media doesn't believe in this fight, as I can see. But in my opinion, Usman would steamroll through these up-and-comers like Morales, Prates, the striker. Those guys haven't been checked yet. I think Usman would be the hardest fight for me, and in terms of media, we could build it up like a former champion, the most title defenses in my weight division. We could promote this fight and make it fun to watch."
