'Bones' announced his retirement earlier this year. However, after the announcement of the UFC White House event, he expressed his desire to make a strong comeback for that card. Amid that, UFC CEO Dana White has expressed his skepticism about relying on Jones for such a historic event.

In a discussion on The Ariel Helwani Show, Sonnen was asked about Jones' potential return at the UFC White House event. In response, he said:

"[Jon Jones] doesn't understand, fighters want to fight. Jon is the only fighter that doesn't want to fight. Jon is the only fighter that's ok taking 3 years off to drink some protein shakes... Now he's sitting out by choice..."

He added:

If Jon thinks he's gonna find a dance partner in [Alex] Pereira and one of the contingencies is that Pereira sits and does nothing for a year... It's not going to solve the problem, and it's also not going to solve Dana's problem with Jon and the White House."

Jon Jones calls for Alex Pereira fight at UFC White House

Jon Jones and Alex Pereira teased the possibility of a fight between them last year, but it never materialized. Recently, Pereira recaptured the light heavyweight championship by defeating Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320. Meanwhile, Jones' last fight in the promotion was against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309.

With the UFC's White House event scheduled to take place in June 2026, 'Bones' has called out Pereira. In a post on X, Jones wrote:

"Alex, I’d be down to bring the highest skill level to the White House. I appreciate the respect you showed, let’s dance."
