Newly crowned undisputed ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion ‘Baby Shark’ Diogo Reis of Brazil admits Japanese star Daiki Yonekura was tougher than he had expected.
The two squared off for the vacant ONE flyweight submission grappling world title at ONE Fight Night 38: Andrade vs. Baatarkhuu on Prime Video, and there was a point in the match that Reis was actually in a little bit of trouble.
Speaking to veteran ONE Championship reporter Nick Atkin in a recent interview, Reis detailed the moment he thought Yonekura would score some major points on the scorecards.

“And also, Yonekura started getting to my legs, and I was scared of him getting the catch. I can't let him get the catch, you know. If he holds [me], you need to stretch. It's a really dangerous position. He could not do it. But after that, you know, [I got] so much headache. My body doesn't want to do anything.”

Needless to say, everything worked out just right for ‘Baby Shark’, and he is now a ONE world champion after his unanimous decision victory over Yonekura.

‘Baby Shark’ Diogo Reis would have never gotten to this point in his career if he hadn’t worked hard for it. He says it was all the time he spent in the gym, getting ready for tough Japanese foe Daiki Yonekura, that led him to victory.
‘Baby Shark’ said:
“No any surprise, I was ready for everything. I knew you were a good opponent, so I still prepared myself for this, you know, I'm so tired here because I gave him my all to get this title. So that's what made it better.”
