Superbon unified the ONE featherweight kickboxing world title after he defeated interim champion Masaaki Noiri by unanimous decision in their action-packed title clash at the weekend in Japan. And among those who congratulated the Thai superstar was former divisional king Chingiz Allazov.

Allazov, coming in as the Grand Prix champion, became featherweight king in January 2023 when he knocked out then titleholder Superbon in the second round of their championship match.

He then successfully defended the belt seven months later with a unanimous decision win over Marat Grigorian. But after his first defense, Allazov became inactive, taking time off to reassess his campaign.

In January this year, ONE officially stripped him of the world title for inactivity, elevating Superbon, who willed his way back to become interim titleholder, to champion status.

There is no word yet on Allazov's return to ONE Championship or in competition in general.

Superbon digs deep to beat Masaaki Noiri at ONE 173

Superbon became the undisputed ONE featherweight kickboxing world champion by beating Masaaki Noiri at ONE 173.

The scheduled five-rounder was action-packed right at the start. After a brief feeling-out period, the two protagonists went at it. The Superbon Training Camp founder made early inroads in the opening round with his high kicks, while Noiri countered with his short calf kicks.

Action further picked up in the next two rounds as both fighters tried to establish momentum with telling strikes. Along the way, they were warned for repeated clinching, but it did not stop them from adjusting and bringing the fight to one another.

In the championship rounds, Superbon began to land more significant hits with his headkicks and punches. Noiri tried to rally back in the fifth and final round, but the Thai champion made sure he disrupted his opponent's rhythm and limited the Japanese standout's effectiveness.

The match went to the judges' scorecards, which all went Superbon's way. The win improved his overall record to 117-37. He now looks to revisit his push for the featherweight Muay Thai world title and become a two-sport world champion.

ONE 173: Superbon vs. Noiri was the second live-on-ground event of ONE Championship in Japan this year.
