Chael Sonnen recently shared his thoughts on Khamzat Chimaev’s incessant callouts of Alex Pereira.
‘Borz’, the UFC middleweight champion, claimed he could beat Pereira and his coach, Glover Teixeira at the same time.
Pereira, the UFC light heavyweight champion, hasn’t responded to Chimaev’s claims, but Sonnen believed it was tough to avoid the constant updates from the middleweight champion.
However, Sonnen shared the path that could lead to UFC greatness for Pereira. The Brazilian has been calling for a fight with Jon Jones at the UFC White House event.

Jones is a former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, but Sonnen suggested a different route for ‘Poatan’ to take up.
The UFC legend claimed that beating Tom Aspinall, the current heavyweight champion, would be all that was needed for ‘Poatan’ to become the greatest of all-time. This would make Pereira the UFC’s first triple champion.
“Alex Pereira is one win away from being the greatest fighter of all-time…greatest fighter of all-time is a debate, right? Well it’s a debate now, it’s not a debate if he goes three-for-three. If Alex Pereira was to beat Tom Aspinall, we don’t have a conversation of GOAT (Greatest of all-time) anymore. We just say Alex Pereira. If he was to be the first triple champion.”
Check out Sonnen’s comments below from 3:00:
Pereira is a former UFC middleweight champion and has done well in the light heavyweight division too. A move up cannot be ruled out. However, it is to be seen if he fights Jones or for the title.
Alex Pereira unimpressed with UFC heavyweight title fight
All eyes were on UFC 321 as Tom Aspinall made his first title defense. The Brit was up against Ciryl Gane but the fight ended in a no-contest due to the champion being on the receiving end of a couple of eye-pokes.
Pereira also had his eyes on the fight and took a swipe at the pair by posting this on Instagram:
"Let's Make the heavyweight Division Great Again! 🗿x 🦴 = 🏠"
Pereira moving up to heavyweight would be a huge talking point for the UFC. He could become the first triple division champion if he faces Aspinall.
However, Aspinall will first have to navitgate a rematch against Gane. Dana White confirmed that was the plan after UFC 321 and a fight would be announced as quickly as possible.
