Alex Pereira has offered a blunt take on the chatter surrounding a potential clash against Jake Paul. The UFC light heavyweight champion claimed that the fight would be a good challenge for both.

That being said, Paul’s public push for a boxing match is not something he can entertain right now since his UFC contract blocks the idea. Speaking in a recent interview with TMZ Sports, Pereira said:

"It would be a challenge for both of us. I do really well in boxing sparring. I have one controlled boxing fight. I think when you do things that you enjoy doing, then you do them well. So that's how I kind of feel about boxing for myself."

Pereira has tested his skills in sparring with legitimate boxing talent, including rising contender Khalil Coe. He consistently posts videos of his sparring sessions. 'Poatan' has competed in one professional boxing match against Thomas Fernandez in 2020. He won the fight by knockout in the first round.

Paul, meanwhile, is preparing for a December bout with Anthony Joshua. 'The Problem Child' holds wins over notable names in MMA like Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, and Nate Diaz in the boxing ring.

The fight with Joshua is set to take place on Dec. 19 in Miami, Florida. The fight is a sanctioned professional bout set for eight three-minute rounds with standard 10-ounce gloves and a 245-pound cap for Joshua to narrow the physical gap.

Jake Paul claims Alex Pereira's team is interested in a boxing fight

Jake Paul insists a boxing match against Alex Pereira can be worked out. However, Pereira is tied to his UFC contract, which blocks the opportunity.

The American had floated around a few names, ranging from Terence Crawford to Canelo Alvarez, when his boxing matchup against Gervonta Davis fell apart. Paul says initial talks with Pereira’s camp were positive but halted by UFC restrictions.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, he said:

"His team is down [to make the fight]. I think the only thing preventing it is the UFC, and if these guys can get out of their contracts to fight me. It would be a massive fight at some point, and I know he's down to make it happen.”
