Why are nautiluses Minecraft’s most creative mount yet?

Minecraft is about to get a new ocean mob with the release of the Mounts of Mayhem game drop. The nautilus will live in the ocean and unlike all the other mobs in the region, you will be able to put a saddle on it and explore the underwater world. This already makes the nautilus special. However, there are many other reasons why the nautilus will be the game’s most creative mount yet.

Nautilus in Minecraft will spawn in a group of two or three and in between Y levels 38 and 58. Also, you are more likely to find them in cold and warm oceans compared to lukewarm counterparts. Here are the reasons why the nautilus mobs are creative.

This is the first time Minecraft is getting an underwater mob that can be mounted to explore the ocean. Exploring the world in the water was a big hassle because you would have to brew a lot of underwater breathing potions and then swim around slowly. But the nautilus will change that.

Another great decision from Mojang Studios is the Breath of the Nautilus status effect, allowing you to breathe underwater as long as you are on the mob. But here’s the catch; it does not really allow you to breathe but stops the oxygen bar. And this is a great move because it makes combat more fun.

Since you can use the spear weapon while being on the nautilus, you can fight other players underwater. Once you dismount them from the mob, their oxygen levels will start going down and sitting back on the nautilus won’t replenish it. This means that successive dismounts will be a lethal strategy to defeat your opponent.

Nautilus can move around the water but also dash momentarily. This move will help you evade incoming attacks, the tridents from the drowned who can mount the zombie nautilus, and even use it to increase the attack power of the spear weapon. Player vs player modes in Minecraft are about to change for the better.

The addition of nautilus has opened a new avenue of possibility. Since the mob can be used to explore the ocean, there must be something worth exploring. Currently, the ocean in Minecraft is mostly water with a couple of interesting structures. Perhaps the future updates might add biomes underwater with special loot.

Mounts of Mayhem game drop will be the last update of 2025 and it is scheduled to release on December 6. Apart from the nautilus, the game is also getting zombie horses, camel husk, the parched mob, and the spear.
