Spear vs trident in Minecraft: How different are the two weapons?

Spear is a brand-new weapon released with the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem game drop. It is a first-tier melee weapon that has two unique damage methods: jab and charge. When looking at other weapons in Minecraft, the trident is somewhat comparable to the spear.

When it comes to design, the spear and the trident are extremely different. Since a spear is made up of earth material and sticks, it has the textures of those crafting ingredients as well. On the other hand, the trident's texture has different shades of teal with three forks at its end. It is essentially a Minecraft version of Aquaman's trident from the DC Comics Book universe.

As mentioned before, the spear is a melee weapon that can do two kinds of melee damage: jab and charge. Jab attack is a regular melee attack, while charge attack is when players hold the spear in front of them and have to run towards the enemy. The attack damage during a charge will depend on the player's speed.

On the other hand, a trident can do a simple melee attack, but it can also be thrown as a ranged weapon. This is something the spear cannot do, even though it is thrown in real life.

Spear has two special abilities: the charge attack damage increases with the player's movement, and allows players to dash forward using the lunge enchantment. With the lunge enchantment, players can dash forward like camels when they jump and perform a jab attack. However, the dash costs several hunger points.

The trident special abilities are a lot different. Since it is a water-related weapon, Mojang added several exclusive enchantments for the weapon. For example, the channeling enchantment allows players to summon lightning during thunderstorms and rain. The riptide enchantment allows players to propel forward when throwing the trident as long as they are wet.

In terms of rarity, both weapons are vastly different as well. The spear is a first-tier weapon that can be crafted using two sticks and one earth material. On the other hand, the trident can only be obtained by a drowned zombie that has a small chance of spawning with the weapon.
