Minecraft has been out for more than fifteen years and players can access it across multiple platforms such as PCs, smartphones, consoles, and even handheld consoles such as the Nintendo Switch. However, the experience of playing the blocky game depends on the platform.

For example, the latest PlayStation 5 can handle the game very easily but low-powered devices such as the Switch struggles to give a decent consistent framerate.

A Minecraft player, u/NotaBot1387, posted a video on the game’s subreddit showing how abysmal the performance of the Nintendo Switch can be during the gameplay. The clip shows the player inside a cave with a creeper approaching them. However, as they try to fight it very carefully, the game freezes due to frame drops, resulting in the creeper exploding and the player dying.

It is worth noting that the Nintendo Switch is not a severely outdated device or cannot run the game. The problem very likely occurs due to poor optimization of the game that can be fixed with updates. The original poster mentioned that they lost their Hardcore world due to this performance issue.

Reacting to the post, u/EIThrowaway-619 commented:

“no way the Switch version is this bad, also this sucks for you I am sorry…”

u/cheeriodust replied to the comment saying that while running the game on the original Switch, the only issue they faced was slow chunk loading when running fast. However, the Switch 2 has no issue in running Minecraft very likely due to better optimization and powerful hardware.

However, not everyone was happy with the performance of Nintendo’s latest console. u/Denathrius said that their friend plays the game carefully in their Nintendo Switch 2, avoiding too many floating entities or else the game becomes unplayable.

u/MisterBlister420 replied that the frustrating part is that Switch 2 is not able to run the game properly mostly because the developers have not ported the game specifically for latest console.

Minecraft runs quite differently on various devices

Running a proper game on different devices is a challenging part because the developers have to specifically work on optimizing it for the specific platform. This is why latest features such as Vibrant Visuals are not available for every device. There are some mods that can improve performance and the visuals of the game, however, players need a powerful PC to properly run modded Minecraft.

Mojang Studios regularly releases updates and bug fixes to iron out any errors and issues. However, it is almost impossible to keep the game bug free. Thankfully, most of these bugs are simple such as villages embedded inside hills, extremely tall pillager towers, and even desert temples in the ocean.
