Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem is a brand new game drop releasing sometime in the winter. Mojang announced this update in their bi-annual live event in September. They showcased a few major features coming with the game drop, like nautilus, zombie nautilus, spear, zombie horse, etc. However, the developers hardly reveal every new feature coming to the game drop. They gradually add other new features in snapshots, beta, and previews.

In recent Java Edition snapshot 25w44a, they released a small but game-changing quality-of-life feature for horses that will change how players interact with them entirely. They added a feature for horses to swim and float on water. Here are more details about it.

Ever since horses came to Minecraft, they have been unable to be ridden on water. Usually, in real life, most horses can run in shallow water and can even swim when ridden by someone. This is not the case for horses in the game.

As soon as players ride them on water, they will start sinking, eventually forcing the player off their backs. After the player dismounts, horses are able to swim and float.

This made traveling a lot tougher, especially while crossing narrow rivers. Players either had to sink and then pull their horse, or jump over these water bodies. Most of the time, players had to leash their horses and pull them while rowing a boat across a water body.

In the latest snapshot 25w44a, Mojang added various new features for the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem game drop. They added new Parched skeletons and Camel Husk mob variants to deserts.

Apart from these major features, they also made a massive quality-of-life change to rideable mobs. Horses, mules, donkeys, and camels will no longer skin when ridden in water. They will float and keep moving forward at a slow pace.

This is a massive change since the community was quite annoyed that horses are not able to cross even the smallest water bodies when ridden. Now they can easily cross entire oceans without any hassle, albeit slowly.
