Minecraft fan suggests concept idea for a classic spear trap

Minecraft is about to get a new weapon called the spear with the Mounts of Mayhem game drop and this will be one of the most creative weapons in the blocky world. It will be very easy to craft and different variants of the spear will have different properties.

Players can execute two types of attack with it; the normal jab and the charged attack. However, creative players are thinking out of the box, coming up with concept machines that can be used for defense.

A Minecraft player, u/True-Zombie-289, shared an image on the game’s subreddit showing how the spear can be used with the dispenser block to create a simple yet effective trap machine.

The user added an illustration showing how a pressure plate can be kept next to the dispenser and when someone stands on it, the spear will stick out from the block and stab the player or mob standing near it. This is also the classic spike from the wall trap seen in many movies.

u/FaylenSol said that they can see this idea being used to make spike traps with dispensers facing up and the use of tripwires, pufferfish, or even skulk sensors to detect the presence of the mob.

u/NukeML added that there should be a way to prevent the trap from triggering if there is a block directly in-front of the dispenser so that players don’t get stabbled through a block. The original poster also added a link to the official Minecraft feedback forum to vote for this functionality to be added with the upcoming game drop.

u/dcwatkins liked the idea of the trap and added that since it works with arrows, the spears should not be a problem. u/AlmostNerd9f mentioned that Mojang Studios should update the jungle temples to have this trap.

The Mounts of Mayhem game drop is just around the corner and the final update of 2025 is bringing some very interesting things to the blocky world. The spear weapon will drastically improve the combat mechanics and make the gameplay more fun. Exploration will also get a big boost with the addition of the nautilus mob.

However, to make things even better, the developers have combined combat and exploration together with mountable mobs. Zombie horses, camel husks, and zombie nautilus are some mobs that will have a hostile mob riding them. They will also have weapons equipped to attack the players.

The threat in the blocky world has been upgraded and it is exciting to see Mojang Studios working on improving the core essence of the game. Mounts of Mayhem game drop will be out on December 9.
