Gone are the days when capes used to be the rarest cosmetic a Minecraft player could have. Nowadays, Mojang is giving away capes left and right every few months. While some players might be saddened by capes becoming common, it is a good change, as there are now more options for players to match their skins and style.

Last year, Minecraft added a total of five new capes as part of the game’s 15th anniversary and The Garden Awakens. 2025 is no different, as Mojang has added more than five new capes - three as a promotion for A Minecraft Movie, released earlier this year, and two for The Copper Age and the Mounts of Mayhem game drop, and a free Common Cape. Home Cape, Menace Cape, and Yearn Cape

A Minecraft Movie was a massive success and went on to become the second highest-grossing video game film in history. While the game’s immense popularity and the hilarious and iconic scenes, like Chicken Jockey, are the main reasons for its success, the promotion for the movie also deserves some praise, especially the three free capes announced as part of the A Minecraft Movie promotion: Home Cape, Menace Cape, and Yearn Cape.

The Home Cape was available to claim on Twitch as a Twitch drop reward for watching any streamer play Minecraft. Similarly, the Menace Cape was rewarded for viewing Minecraft livestreams on TikTok. Lastly, the Yearn Cape was a reward for participating in Bedrock Edition-exclusive quest challenges. Alongside its existing popularity, these promotions further boosted A Minecraft Movie’s presence among Twitch viewers, TikTok users, and Minecraft players.

Common Cape

Common Cape is a free Minecraft cape awarded to all players who logged in to Bedrock Edition using a Microsoft account between May 6, 2025, and May 5, 2026. This cape is themed after the iconic grass block and is an easy way to get a cape for free.

Copper Cape

The Copper Cape was given out as a reward in celebration of The Copper Age game drop. This update introduced many new features related to copper. On the Copper Cape, players can see the different stages of oxidation that copper goes through in Minecraft, from a bright orange to a blue-green color.

What makes the Copper Cape special is that it comes with a unique look for the elytra. Equipping a cape in Minecraft also changes the appearance of the elytra. Usually, the elytra has the same pattern as the cape printed over it. However, in the case of the Copper Cape, players will see the oxidation pattern using the copper grates texture on the elytra.

Zombie Horse Cape

Minecraft is ending 2025 with another free cape called the Zombie Horse Cape, in celebration of the release of the Mounts of Mayhem game drop. With zombie horses now finally part of Survival mode, commemorating this update with a cape is definitely appreciated by fans.

To get the Zombie Horse Cape, players had to slay four mobs using the newly added spear weapon in Survival mode in Bedrock Edition. Playing Bedrock Edition is a must to get this cape. Upon completing the challenge, the cape will eventually become available in both Java and Bedrock Edition.
