Star raider Pawan Sehrawat missed the majority of the Pro Kabaddi 2025 season. He was sent back home by Tamil Thalaivas after just three matches. The franchise stated that he was indisciplined.
Pawan Sehrawat played three matches and scored 22 points. He was the captain of the team and was acquired for ₹59.5 lakhs. Towards the end of the season, the star raider went live on his Instagram handle and exposed the management while denying the allegations.
Tamil Thalaivas had a poor campaign. They finished tenth after the league stage with six wins from 18 matches. Moreover, they lost all of their last five matches. They clearly missed the services of Pawan Sehrawat.
The star raider recently appeared in an interview with Sunil Taneja. He opened up on the controversy, his role in the team, his plans ahead and more.
That said, here are five major statements made by Pawan Sehrawat during his recent interview post Pro Kabaddi 2025.
#5 On veteran Dabang Delhi defender's performance despite low price
Pawan Sehrawat praised veteran Dabang Delhi defender Fazel Atrachali for his brilliant display despite being picked for his base price this season. Fazel, a Pro Kabaddi legend, did not attract a high bid. However, he played a massive role in helping Dabang Delhi win the title this season.
"There was one player who was sold for ₹1.5 crore. Puneri Paltan took him. That Fazel Atrachali today went for ₹20 lakhs (30). Became MVP. So was Fazel Atrachali only a 20 lakh player? So that's why money doesn't matter. The value you went for in the auction doesn't reduce your game, your playing aura at all. Whether he should get 20 lakhs according to his name or according to his game or not. Those who sit in the auction will decide that. But that player is good. It's in his hands to decide. He has shown by doing good. He's playing like a tiger," he said.
Fazel scored 52 tackle points from 19 games. He also picked up four High 5s. The veteran also captained for a few games when Ashu Malik was out due to injury.
#4 On which star Indian cricketer he looked up to for motivation
Pawan Sehrawat also made an interesting revelation about a star Indian cricketer that he looked up to for motivation. Pawan stated that he looked at all-rounder Hardik Pandya's example when his surgery took place. Hardik was out with an injury before the IPL 2022 season but made a stellar comeback.
"I somehow find some support to motivate myself. Like once when my surgery happened, at that time I had found Hardik Pandya when I got surgery. Hardik Pandya had back injury. And he was taken on a stretcher. He was taken on a stretcher from the ground itself. So that I remember, that comes to my mind. I think many times when at that time that what comeback the guy made and as soon as he came, he went to Gujarat's team in IPL, made Gujarat win, then played for India, what performance he did. So at that time I made my comeback like that from injury," he said.
Hardik captained the Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2022. They won the title under his leadership. He led from the front with his incredible all-round performance. Hardik scored 487 runs from 15 matches with four half-centuries. He also picked up eight wickets from ten innings, including three in the final.
#3 On the role given to him in Tamil Thalaivas for Season 12
Pawan Sehrawat revealed that he was given the role of a second or third raider in the team before the season began. While there were talks of him having an issue with not being the lead raider, he dismissed the notion and stated that he had accepted the role given to him.
"No, it's nothing like that because that's an internal matter, that's a team's plan matter and until the league is running, until I am a part of Tamil Thalaivas. I can't even tell what roles I was given. But now the season is over. We can talk about this openly. My role was given that I have to play second raider or third raider. My role in the team was told to me that you are not the main raider. And why won't I accept?," he said.
He gave an example of their very first match against Telugu Titans. Arjun Deshwal, who was picked as the main raider, delivered 20 raids in the game while Pawan, as captain, put in 16 raids. He added that he only wanted the team to win, and it did not matter whether he played more or less.
#2 On his plans ahead after controversial exit from Pro Kabaddi 2025
Pawan Sehrawat also opened up on the road ahead. He expressed that his focus would be on his game with important tournaments such as the World Cup and Asian Games coming up. Pawan Sehrawat also stated that he would answer the allegations put on him by his performance.
"The next stage is this only that wherever I go in season 13 or before that World Cup is happening or Asian Games are happening, so there I should perform and show because every thing's answer is only performance only. There's no benefit in fighting with anyone or replying back to anyone. Nothing. You perform. You have to show by doing on the mat that brother not just the name doesn't work. I now came to know that nothing happens just with the name. Work has to be done."
While it is unlikely that Pawan Sehrawat would continue with the Thalaivas, it remains to be seen whether he plays for them or goes to a new team in the next season.
#1 On being shocked after learning the reasons for being sent back
Pawan Sehrawat also revealed the reasons that were officially given to him by the franchise for being sent back abruptly. He expressed that he was shocked as the reasons were petty and did not make sense.
"The reasons given for sending me home were very petty and I was shocked seeing them like you are late by five minutes for a shoot, late by ten minutes for a captain shoot. I have an idea as a player when to go and how to go so there is no question on being late. These things were manipulated. These were the official reasons given to me. They just polished the rule and used it and sent me home," he said.
