IndyCar star Will Power left Team Penske after the 2025 season, after a year-long contract negotiation with Roger Penske and Co., which wasn't fruitful. Power joined Andretti Global with David Malukas replacing the Australian at Team Penske. The Australian manager recently came out and sent a blunt message to Malukas about the Penske expectations.

The 2025 IndyCar was the last one of Will Power's Team Penske contract. Going into the season, the two-time IndyCar champion signed with Fernando Alonso's management company, A14 management, with former IndyCar driver Oriol Servia serving as his manager.

Power's contract negotiations with Team Penske for an extension were delayed, and the Australian didn't know his future until the last race of the season. After the season ended, it was announced that Penske and Power parted ways after 17 successful years.

Roger Penske's team signed the hotshot David Malukas as Will Power's replacement, who drove a brilliant 2025 season with AJ Foyt Racing, a team with Team Penske technical alliance. Power's manager, Oriol Servia, recently featured on the Racer's Debrief podcast and detailed Penske's expectations from Malukas while talking about the expectations from the rookies Dennis Hauger and Caio Collet.

“That's why maybe going to a team that, of course, they want to perform and they (Hauger and Collet) expect it to do great. But it's not the same situation you were talking about with Malukas at Penske, that there is the added pressure that, yes, you are expected to deliver. You're not here to learn.” (31:00 onwards)

“When you get into one of the top four that we're talking about, you are expected. Sorry, dude, if you skip a couple of years to get here, somehow, good for you, but I don't care. You're here to deliver 10 out of 10,” added Servia

Colton Herta's father hails Will Power's arrival as ‘positive change’ at Team Penske

With Colton Herta moving to the F1 reserve driver and F2 role for 2026, Will Power replaced him at Andretti Global. Colton's father, Bryan Herta, who continues to work with Andretti, hailed the Australian's arrival at the team, and detailed how it'll be a positive change. He said,

“Now Will coming in is a different dynamic because here's a guy who's got 71 pole positions, championships, Indy 500 wins. He's got a level of success and little bit of gravitas which comes with that's going to change the dynamic within the team and I think that'll be a positive. I’m not expecting that he's going to come in and pull Kyle aside and coach him but I think his leadership by example on a guy who's been there, done that achieved.”

Power left the iconic #12 Chevrolet at Penske, which will now be driven by David Malukas.
