2022 Indy 500 winner Marcus Ericsson is set to make his return to the Rolex 24 at Daytona in 2026. The Andretti Global driver will become the second driver from the TWG Motorsports family, after Colton Herta, to utilize the organization's wide reach among racing categories.

Ericsson will pilot the No. 45 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 alongside Danny Formal, Trent Hindman, and Graham Doyle. The former F1 driver has made two appearances at the 24-hour IMSA race in 2022 with Cadillac Racing (DPi class) and in 2024 with Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti (GTP class).

In 2026, the full-time IndyCar driver will return to WTR, a sister team to Andretti Global, for the Rolex 24 at Daytona. In WTR's press release, Marcus Ericsson said:

"I’m super excited to be back racing with Wayne Taylor Racing for the legendary Rolex 24 hours. It will be my third time racing the Daytona 24, but the first time for me in the GTD class."
"I’m joining a great lineup with Danny, Trent and Graham, whom I know quite well already after being to quite a few races with the team in 2025 whilst supporting my brother, Hampus, in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo championship. I’m very thankful to Wayne, Travis and DEX for the opportunity. I can’t wait to go racing," he added.

Marcus Ericsson's best result in his two Daytona 24 appearances came on his debut. He finished P6 in the DPi class with Cadillac Racing in 2022. The Swede's second appearance at the premier IMSA race in 2024 ended with an unfortunate DNF for the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-06 due to an electrical issue.

How Marcus Ericsson and Colton Herta benefited from the TWG Motorsports umbrella

Marcus Ericsson's 2026 Daytona 24 Hours move mirrors that of his former IndyCar teammate Colton Herta, who left the American series after the 2025 season to pursue his F1 dream. Besides serving as a test driver for Andretti Global's sister team, Cadillac F1, Herta will race full-time in F2 with Hitech GP, and also compete in three IMSA races with Cadillac Racing, including the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

TWG Motorsports CEO Dan Towriss, who has facilitated these intra-TWG-umbrella moves, was excited about Ericsson's return to the Daytona 24.

"I’m delighted to see Marcus join WTR for this opportunity," said Towriss. "Moves like this reflect the potential of the TWG Motorsports portfolio in creating an opportunity for Marcus to race alongside Danny, Trent, and Graham."

TWG Motorsports also owns a NASCAR team, Spire Motorsports, making it a powerhouse organization with teams across NASCAR, F1, IndyCar, and IMSA. Andretti Global was the biggest name in TWG's portfolio, but it could be overshadowed by Cadillac F1 once the American team enters F1 next year.

For Marcus Ericsson, his time with Andretti Global has gone from bad to worse. In 2025, he recorded his worst season in IndyCar, with only two Top 10 finishes in 17 races. 2026 is the final year of his contract with the team.
