The WSF Squash World Cup returns to Chennai, with twelve nations vying for top honours in the mixed team event, which gets underway on Tuesday (December 9). Chennai had previously hosted the tournament in 2023. Matches will he held at the Express Avenue Mall and the Indian Squash Academy.

For the 2025 edition of the tournament, twelve teams have been split into four pools, with each team consisting of two male and two female players.

Hong Kong, Malaysia, Korea, Japan and Iran are the other Asian nations that will join hosts India for the event. Teams coming in from Switzerland, Poland, South Africa, Egypt, Brazil and Australia ensure that every continent is well represented in the six-day event.

The first edition of the Squash World Cup was held in 1996 in Malaysia, with Australia ending up as the winners. England, who were the runners-up to Australia in the inaugural event, went on to reign supreme in 1999 when the tournament moved to the Netherlands.

Chennai hosted the World Cup in 2011, with the Egyptians triumphing. After a 12-year gap, the revamped tournament returned to Chennai, with Egypt defeating Malaysia in the final.

As regards the upcoming event, matches will be played in a best-of-five game format, with the team scoring seven points first winning the game.

The Indians find themselves in Pool A alongside Brazil and Switzerland. Hong Kong, South Africa and Korea make up Pool A, while Malaysia, Australia and Poland will compete to top Pool C. Pool D comprises Japan, Egypt and Iran.

The top two teams from each of the four pools will advance to the quarterfinals, which will be played on December 12. The event will come to a close with the finals slated to be held on December 14.

India will begin their WSF Squash World Cup campaign by locking horns with Switzerland on the opening day. Hong Kong will play Korea in the tournament opener. Japan and Iran will then square off in a Group D clash.

India, who will be represented by Anahat Singh, Abhay Singh, Joshna Chinappa, and Velavan Senthilkumar, finished third in the previous edition of the tournament in 2023.
