The biggest shock came in the men’s 70kg category, where the relatively young Hitesh Gulia overcame the top seed, Japan’s Sewon Okazawa, a two-time Olympian and the 2023 Asian Games champion. In a tense quarter-final, Gulia clinched the victory with a tight 3-2 split decision, marking what he proudly called the biggest win of his career. Equally impressive was Pawan Bartwal (55kg), who delivered a stunning performance against Kazakhstan’s Altynbek Nursultan, the gold medallist from the World Boxing Cup Brazil leg. Bartwal showed exceptional composure and control to register a convincing 5-0 victory to secure his first international medal.

The winning streak was maintained by three other Indian boxers, all recording dominant 5-0 unanimous decisions. Sumit (75kg) won his bout against South Korea's Kim Hyeon-tae, combining aggression with tactical control to overwhelm his opponent. Meanwhile, Naveen (90kg) leveraged his height and reach to perfection, keeping Kazakhstan’s Bekzat Tangatar away while landing clean scoring blows to secure his decisive victory.
